MATH:
Cuisinaire Creature- The purpose of this problem is to determine whether the scholars who solved it had correct answer. To do that, you too, need to solve it yourself and compare your work to the other scholars' work. Solve for the surface area and volume pay close attention to the details. Record using words, drawings, and equations. We will discuss it in class on HINT WEDNESDAY. This is a Poster Problem, so it is due next Monday, October 19th.
Pancake Problem: This is a number choice problem so scholars can choose which numbers to use in the problem. The are asked to determine how much pancake (how many pancakes) each "kid" gets. Since we know that "kids" are goats, we are solving it for pancakes and goats! Scholars should show all their thinking using strategies that make sense to them. *A note for well meaning parents*: Your scholar may not know equations for this kind of math so that would not make sense as a strategy for them to use. Scholars should submit what they have completed on the Pancake Problem by end of day Tuesday. We will discuss it in class on HINT WEDNESDAY.
Orange Post It Note Problems: These are designed to be jumps into various math concepts, but not deep dives. The post it notes might cover a topic your scholar does not yet know... so they would put " I do not know how to do this." We will discuss it in class on HINT WEDNESDAY. The Post It Note Problems (PNOP) are posted in the classroom and also on a Google Slideshow.
SCIENCE: Scholars need to come to class with materials printed and ready to work. The entire set of things needed to be printed is available in Google Classroom. I sent an email to parents asking for your help in printing out the evidence cards we will need this week.
This week we are starting chapter 3 of the Geology of Mars and scholars are getting new and exciting data from NASA to help them determine what caused the channel o Mars. Was it flowing water or what is flowing lava? Each day we will have new evidence. Parents this is where you help me! They need to only be seeing the evidence I outline each day. If you can print out the evidence pages I sent by email, and hand them to your scholar then they will only see the evidence we had that day. When new evidence comes in, we will share it with them.
Monday GOM 3.1 scholars need evidence cards A, B, C, D, and E, and they also need the "Background Information: Triangle-shaped Landforms."
Tuesday and Wednesday GOM 3.2 scholars need evidence card F and "Background Information Rock Types." They will be examining rocks with hand lens and recording their observations. Scholars will then restate the claim they think is best supported by the evidence provided.
