Scholars have been busy studying the World of Islam. Scholars have learned about a very important researching skill whic I call "bridge" research. They were taught that the details/facts they find lead them to dig deeper into their research and advance their understanding of the topics being studied!
Super excited to come back to teach! Scholars learned all about what it means to be a Critical Friend. Ask them about the lesson, and how they applied their understanding when analyzing their Graffiti Name Tags. Speaking of Graffiti, ask your scholar about the origin of Graffiti. I promise I told them it is illegal today, so don't go out in public to tag any buildings. :) Nonfiction Text Features! In History, you will find me teaching lessons that will help scholars in their future learning experiences. Scholars learned about Nonfiction Text Features that Signal Importance. Ask them to show you the handout I gave them on these features (should be in the History section of their binder!). After talking about how to access the textbook in this way, scholars learned about how visuals can give you a TON of learning. Viewing and analyzing the visuals in a nonfiction text can help us in comprehending what we are reading! Ask them to show you what they learned from just viewing the visuals from chapter 1 in their History textbooks. Visual Reading Guide Check out the visual reading guide your scholars have in their binders to help them comprehend the text using the visuals to start. Next week, scholars will be finding evidence to support the big idea: The Past Influences the Present. They will find this evidence from their beginning unit of study on the Legacies of the Roman Empire! Super excited to come back to teach! Scholars learned all about what it means to be a Critical Friend. Ask them about the lesson, and how they applied their understanding when analyzing their Graffiti Name Tags. Scholars are in the midst of a Think Like a Disciplinarian lesson. At the moment, as you can see in the photos, scholars are researching and learning about Sociologists, Political Scientists, Economists, and Geographers. Scholars are finding out what the disciplinarian studies, how they study, what they do, what language they use, what tools they use, and more. After becoming an expert in one of these perspectives, the scholars will start a Colonial Region research project. Stayed tune for learning about Colonial America through the EYES of a political scientist, sociologist, economist, or geographer! Happy First Week!
I have been in North Carolina since Wednesday with my son, Connor who is playing in the NTIS USA baseball tournament. My apologies, but I had to support my kiddo, and I know Mrs. Okamoto could fill my shoes just fine! Looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday when I teach them a Critical Friend Lesson using their Personalized Textbook covers. Ask your scholars about what it means to be a Critical Friend.
